John is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate who earned his Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Denver Seminary in Littleton, CO. Prior to becoming a counselor, John spent years working with middle and high school students and their families in multiple settings. He has counseling experience working with adolescents, college students and adults of all ages. He is passionate about providing therapy to individuals of all ages, backgrounds and experiences.

John believes healing, change, and growth happen in the context of a secure relationship with another. He sees a good, trusting relationship between counselor and client as a key to the success of counseling and seeks to establish such relationship with individuals though empathy, curiosity, and authenticity. John seeks to gear counseling sessions to the needs of each individual, helping them to move towards their goals while welcoming what clients bring into each session.

He works from an integrative model of counseling which seeks to grow understanding of oneself while equipping individuals with helpful skills and tools to improve thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. He incorporates many evidenced based theories of counseling including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Strengths Based Counseling, just to name a few.

John lives in Durham with his wife, Heidi, and their son. Outside the counseling chair he enjoys mountain biking, skiing, a good mystery, ice cream and following Denver Nuggets basketball.
