Liz Downey earned her Masters in Counseling from Southern Methodist University, where she specialized in Marriage and Family Therapy. Liz has experience working in hospital settings with adults experiencing acute mental health needs and chemical dependency, and has counseled individuals and couples in both community and private practice settings.

Liz feels privileged to walk beside people through challenging seasons and to be a partner in discovering ways to rethink, self-examine, grow, and develop. Liz wholeheartedly believes that we all possess innate strengths that can be a resource for healing and change. Each person’s story and situation is unique, so she incorporates relevant tools, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with a person-centered approach that prioritizes the individual needs of each client. She seeks to create an accepting and warm environment where you can feel comfortable and free to share your authentic self.

Liz primarily works with college and graduate students, adults, and premarital couples. Her areas of interest include assisting clients with concerns about anxiety; infertility, pregnancy and postpartum difficulties; body image and low self-esteem, relationship issues, life transitions, and grief and loss. She has received training through Postpartum Support International in working with clients experiencing perinatal mood disorders.

IIn her spare time, Liz enjoys a great audiobook and long walks with her dog as well as trying new coffee shops.
